(Sahnoun 9-10) Critics also point out that the failure of conflict management in this instance was the result of a failure to understand the depth of political and cultural involvement of the different parties, as well as the regional and sub-regional influences

The Middle East receives substantial MI as well. There are no shortage of armchair critics of intervention, arguing that intervention necessarily serves outside interests, in part because the interveners have little sense of the root causes of conflicts; that is to say, they inherently pursue their own interests because they understand those interests better (Auteserre, 2009)
