Liberty Enlightening the World was coined by the famous French historian, Edouard Laboulaye. This statue was, if truth be told, the symbol to memorialize the French-American colonies' alliance during the American Revolution ("Liberty, Statue of")
The main material used in its construction was copper. It was crafted by Frenchmen in Paris (Maybury) and was shipped to New York City in 1885 where the whole assemblage took place ("Liberty, Statue of")
